Marceline chooses to leave the island, hoping to get Zephyr some medical attention.

With Zephyr in mind, the decision to leave also meant leaving Connor and Genaya behind, surely not an easy decision. With Zephyr’s anxiety, Marcie had been too focused on her rather than the commotion on the shore. The jolt scared everyone, the panic as the ferry took on water was palpable, and Marcie quickly refocused. As the ferry sunk Marcie helped Zephyr get to the highest point on the Ferry. She tried to ease the worries of her panicking friend, but she also knew that they could end up in the water for some time. Though it was only meant to be a brief separation, she swam over to Taney, who was struggling with keeping her two children above water while calling for someone to help find Lucas... She wouldn’t make it to her friends.

Honestly I’ve been meaning to do more hiking, so I guess in a roundabout way this is kinda a good thing? I did bring all the books I meant to read as well though, I just hope the cops know what they’re doing.

Zephyr chooses to leave due to her ankle injury (though that's totally just the excuse she's using...)

Marcie stuck with Zephyr for the most part as they got on the ferry, even after the chaos of her worst nightmare began. With the injury to Zephyr’s ankle, she knew that even if it was possible to swim to the shore she wouldn’t be able to. Marceline told her to float on her back and save her energy, help would come and everything would be fine. It seemed logical, they weren’t too far from the island and it was a fairly clear day... but in the back of her mind, she could still remember the staff’s warning that the view was deceptive and that it wasn’t possible to swim the length of the massive lake. As she floated there, trying to stay calm and, likely, failing, she was left alone as Marcie swam to help others. In that time alone, but also in a crowd of terrified mostly-stranger, Zephyr would meet her death...

In order to get Brianna safe, Alessandra chooses to return to the mainland and wait there for Micah.

The decision to leave the island wasn’t an easy one, but one Aless made with Micah in mind. She scooted to the main office with Genaya and Marceline, whom she and Brianna had stayed with the night before. The departure made everyone anxious about what had really happened on the island, the majority of the group not turning up. It weighed on her mind as the boat left and though Aubrianna was napping on Aless’ lap, Aless couldn’t bring herself to shut her own tired eyes. As a result, Alessandra was the first to realize that Lucas had fallen off the ferry and, with Aubrianna in her arms, ran for help as the lodgers and staff on the boat panicked over the jolt that happened. By the time she entered the wheelhouse of the ferry there was no one navigating the ferry and it was too late to get to safety, the boat sinking too quickly. Even if she wanted to she was locked in.

Can you tell us about the Ferry? How long is the ride to the island? What's on it? What does it look like?

It’s smaller than most and privately owned ferry. It can hold 5 vehicles max and does not go over 28 knots. It’s a calm ride, but the distance to the island from shore is about 45 minutes. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, a bar, and a trolly that offers small snacks (chips and sandwiches)
